Ali, Dave and their newborn baby Skylar were hit by the fires in central Portugal last weekend and lost their home and everything they own. Their entire community is in shock with over 25 families losing their homes in their area alone. They are in dire need of help from their friends and family.
On October 15th, 2017 raging wildfires swept through their valley and community. They tried to flee but due to road closures were trapped in what can only be imagined by you or I as a living nightmare. They hid in a basement bunker of a friend with six others, four dogs and baby Skylar; wet towels over their heads. Meter-thick stone walls heated up and smoke bellowed in no matter what they shoved against the escape door to keep it out.
They miraculously survived this traumatic experience: this is what truly matters. Nothing they owned did.
Their home, land, solar panels, garden, trees, clothing, baby things, bed, crib, books, hard-drive, camera, the list goes on – everything is destroyed. Even their cast iron pots and pans have melted in the inferno.
No one ever wants the phrase “just the clothes on my back” to become reality, but sadly for them; it is.
We are running a fundraiser to appeal to family, friends, and anyone who reads this to help them get back on their feet. They invested their life savings into their dream. Currently, newborn in hand, they are moving from one temporary home to the next. Ali and Dave are known by everyone for their huge hearts; they are in dire need for this to be reciprocated.
Every donation will mean the world to them to rebuild their life.
