Less than a year before the earthquake we (Lisanne and Violeta) were in the beautiful country of Nepal; surrounded by ancient temples, the amazing Himalayan mountains but also a country with one of the poorest people in the world, who always have a smile on their face. We volunteered at a children’s home with about fifteen kids, South of Kathmandu. Each child had his/her own story. Some had lost one or both of their parents, others couldn’t be taken care of anymore by their parents or were even abandoned at birth.
Each week was a struggle and it was often unsure if there would be enough money to buy food or drinking water. And if the school fees and rent could be paid on time. They completely relay upon donors because they don’t receive any money from the government. The situation they lived in was not comparable with the life of a child in a Western country. You could have said they had barely anything, but that became so much worse on the 25th of May.
After the earthquake, that startled the whole world, we were able to come in contact with Maya Sen, the founder of the children’s home. We were relieved to hear that she, as well as the children were unharmed, nevertheless, the situation they are in now, is immensely critical.
Nobody dares to enter their home again, because they fear for more aftershocks. These aftershocks can occur up to one year after the earthquake. They are sleeping outside on the field, between the ruins of the collapsed houses, because they do not trust the ground under their feet.
Please support the Children’s Home (Bal Sewa Griha) so they can at least get a hold on their basic needs and make a start with rebuilding the orphanage. Because all what seems obvious for us, is uncertain for them every day now, and probably for a long time.
We will transfer the money to Maya, the founder of the children’s home, so the funds will reach the children and those who take care of them directly!
